    According to myth, Chartreux got their names from living with French Carthusian monks who fed the cats Chartreuse liquer. Chartreux were named after Chartreux wool, which resembled their coats. Chartreux are described in documents dating to the 16th century. Chartreux have a smiling facial expression. Chartreux do not meow.
